The vehicle is powered by a small turbojet engine, which can be switched off and on during flight to conserve fuel. When the engine is off, power is supplied by an auxiliary battery. This vehicle is an old design dating from the mid 1970s, which has been continually updated to meet changing needs and technology, including a change from propeller power to jet power for quicker response times.
