M113A1 Twin Recoilless Rifle Carrier
Notes: This
Pakistani modification of the M113A1 uses a mount on the forward part of the
hull instead of the normal commander's cupola for a twin M40A2 106mm recoilless
rifle installation. The vehicle
carries a small crew and a large amount of ammunition for its launchers.
The mount includes a laser rangefinder for the recoilless rifles to
increase accuracy. The weapons are
fired by a gunner standing in the open rear hatch.
The M113A1 hull
is driven by the 6V53 212-horsepower diesel engine, and an automatic
transmission is installed. The engine, transmission, differential, and final
drives are unified into a single power pack which may be replaced as one unit or
serviced as individual components. The M113A1 chassis is controlled by
differential steering and tillers. The fuel tanks are in the walls of the
fighting compartment. The crew compartment of the M113A1 chassis has a very
well-functioning heater. The battery compartment is also heated for cold-weather
operation.
