Lakefield Model 64B

     Notes: This small-caliber rifle is similar to many such rifles being marketed today.  It was produced in Canada by Lakefield from 1990-96, when production passed to Savage in the US (called the Savage 64-F).  It is a typical modern small-caliber rifle, with a walnut half-stock, pistol-grip wrist, and a receiver grooved for sights. 

     Twilight 2000 Notes: Production never passed to Savage; these rifles were still being manufactured many years after the Twilight War in Quebec.

Small Bore Cadet Rifle

     Notes: This weapon is an almost exact copy of the C-7 assault rifle, with the only significant differences being the modifications necessary to allow it to fire .22 Long Rifle ammunition.  As with most such weapons, the Canadians did this to reduce the costs of marksmanship training, maintenance of skills, and teaching of the basic care of the weapon; this can be particularly effected when used as a substitute for firing a 5.56mm NATO weapon, as the recoil forces produced are not a great deal more, and though the .22 Long Rifle round is not capable of nearly the range of the 5.56mm NATO round, the trajectory of the round is similar.  A kit was also produced to convert existing C-7 or M-16-series weapons to this configuration.  The weapon is fed by an insert that is placed into a standard C-7 magazine. 

     Twilight 2000 Notes: As with such weapons in several other countries, the Small Bore Cadet Rifles were eventually used as emergency issue to civilian militia and irregular forces, but in Canada, this occurred far later, with mass issue not really seen until nearly the middle of 2001.  Some of them were still found in the hands of hunters and children learning firearms over 40 years after the Twilight War.
