Norinco M-97

Notes: This is a Chinese copy of the Winchester Model 97 shotgun. It was designed primarily for export to the US, for use by those in the Cowboy Shooting crowd. The parts cannot be interchanged with those of the Winchester 97, but in virtually all other respects, the Norinco M-97 looks just like a Winchester Model 97. The action of the weapon is very smooth, but the stock is done in such a slick finish that the firing hand can ride up on the stock quite a bit and get bitten by the exposed bolt when cycling the gun rapidly.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This weapon does not exist.

Norinco M-98

Notes: This pump-action shotgun strongly resembles the Remington 870P; so much so that the Remington Company wondered whether it was a copyright violation (though any lawsuits appear to have been abortive). Whether it is or not, the M-98 is a standard-format pump-action shotgun with a tubular magazine, and one of two sights: bead foresight and ghost ring rear sight, or rifle-type sights. The furniture is polymer; the standard stock is of conventional layout, but a version with a true pistol grip is also available. The metalwork is matte Parkerized. The standard barrel is 18.5 inches, but a 20-inch barrel is also available, and is primarily meant for civilian sales.

Twilight 2000 Notes: These weapons are rare outside of China, except in the Far East and Southeast Asia.

Merc 2000 Notes: The lawsuit by Remington is still pending as of 2003.
