This is a luxury
sedan which is equipped with a plethora of options and features, not the least
of which are its engines, of which no less than five are available.
The engines are progressively more powerful, but none of them are
particularly fuel efficient, and all require premium gasoline.
All deliver good bursts of power and sound powerful. Handling is precise
and agile, and ride quality is excellent.
The interior room is adequate for four, and a bit squeezed for five.
Legroom is good, but headroom is poor; tall people may find themselves
reclining the front seats more than they wish, or even slouching.
The control layout is a bit awkward, with the markings on many controls
mysterious; much experimentation is necessary for a driver new to the XJ.
Despite the size of the car, the trunk is relatively small.

Jaguar XK8 1997
This is more or
less a sports coupe version of the XJ series, smaller, lighter, and with better
handling, but still too heavy to be a true sports coupe.
The ride is a quite a bit softer than the typical sports car, and
handling a bit less than most sports cars, with body lean being rather evident
in cornering. The engines, though
they deliver a muted growl when worked, are never very loud, and deliver their
power smoothly and without hesitation.
Unfortunately, they require premium fuel.
Acceleration is quick, able to go from 0 to 100 kph (Com Mov 139) in 5.3
seconds. Interior room is scant,
even for normal-sized people, and trunk space is barely enough for two people on
a weekend jaunt. The seats are
comfortable and support well, but getting into them can be difficult due to the
low-slung chassis.
