Smith & Wesson I-Bolt

Notes: Currently the only bolt-action rifle offered by Smith & Wesson, the I-Bolt is based on the well-proven Remington 721 and 722. It is a very simple design, easy to manufacture and maintain, yet capable of firing rounds of good power. The bolt is quite chunky (often called a "fat bolt"), derived from the Weatherby Mk V and designed for strength. This also means there is no need for a lengthwise locking lug, or bolt guides; a simple tube guides the bolt. This heavy bolt construction, on the other hand, makes for a rifle heavy in the receiver.

The I-Bolt uses a short lift and pull bolt, making it easy to use and keep on target during operation. When the safety is applied, the bolt is held in whatever position it is at the time of application of the safety (front or back). The safety is 3-position and on the right side near the bolt handle. The sear prevents the bolt from being pulled back too far, operating as a bolt stop. The trigger pull weight is externally adjustable using a tool; it is a Timney trigger unit. Barrels are made by Thompson/Center and are free-floating and match-quality; they are 23 inches long. The stock is synthetic and can be had in a variety of finishes, ranging from basic black to Realtree Camo. The I-Bolt has a full-length scope base with a Weaver rail. The I-Bolt has no iron sights.
