Bars-1

Notes: This rifle was created to fire a then-experimental cartridge; this cartridge was simply a 7.62mm Kalashnikov case necked down to take a .22 Long Rifle bullet. The stock was of cheap birch, and the trigger guard was a simple stamped strip. The Bars-1 has a mount for a telescopic sight on the right side of the receiver.

Bars-4/Bars-4-1

Notes: This is a Russian hunting rifle designed for hunting medium and large game birds. They are designed for a wide variety of climate extremes, resistant to dirt and moisture and able to operate in temperatures ranging from -60 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The trigger is adjustable, and they are drilled and tapped for a scope mount. This weapon is basically a smaller version of the LOS-7/LOS-7-1.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This weapon did not get out of the Eastern Bloc before the Twilight War, and the 5.56mm NATO versions do not exist.

LOS-4

Notes: This rifle was introduced in 1963, and is unusually (for the time) chambered for a Western as well as a Russian cartridge. It is considered an ugly but well-performing rifle, with a rather lumpish stock, stamped trigger guard, and white spacers that tended to yellow quickly. The LOS-4 does have a chromed bore and a cleaning rod beneath the barrel.

LOS-7/LOS-7-1

Notes: These are Russian hunting rifles designed for medium and large game. They were designed for climate extremes, and will operate properly in temperatures ranging from -60 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. They are drilled and tapped for a scope, the trigger pull is adjustable. The LOS-7 is the standard rifle, while the LOS-7-1 is magazine fed.

Twilight 2000 Notes: These weapons were often brought along by Russian troops operating in Siberia, Scandinavia, and Alaska, due to good performance in cold weather. The version firing 7.62mm Nagant exists only in the Twilight 2000 World.

Margolin MVO-1

Notes: This is a Russian target rifle, designed in 1963, which may be regarded as a perfected version of the disastrous Canadian Ross rifle (see Canadian Battle Rifles). The weapon has a birch half-stock with a cheekpiece, and a fluted fore-end to help save weight and give the shooter something more to grip. The rear sight is micro-adjustable.

Mosin-Nagant BI-7.62

Notes: This is basically a Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 or 1917 turned into a biathlon rifle. The BI-7.62 had a pistol grip stock instead of a straight stock, checkering on the fore-end and pistol grip, and a revised bolt handle shape to make it easier to manipulate. A hollow in the butt allowed two stripper clips to be carried. An optic sight was mounted to the side of the receiver.

Sobol

Notes: This is a rifle often used for varmint shooting and by minors in Russia. It is basically a scaled down version of the Maral sporting rifle. It is well adjusted to the extremes of heat and cold in Russia, and has an adjustable trigger. The stock is partially hollow and can hold two magazines. It is drilled and tapped for a scope mount.

TOZ-78

Notes: This rimfire carbine was introduced in 2000, and is a simple bolt-action weapon which is easy to use and maintain. The trigger mechanism, primary safety mechanism, and magazine well are made in one piece of light alloy. The TOZ-78 also has an indicator which tells the shooter whether his weapon’s firing pin is cocked. The rear sight is a simple fixed leaf, and the front sight is a protected bead; the TOZ-78 is also grooved with dovetails for a scope mount. The stock is of birch or beech, but a deluxe version exists with a stock of select walnut root and silver-inlaid engraving on the receiver.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

TOZ-109

Notes: This is a simple, basic bolt-action hunting rifle designed to be easy to shoot and take care of. The TOZ-109 is magazine-fed. The folding rear leaf sight is not considered to be very good, but it is adequate for up to mid-range shots, and the TOZ-109 is really meant to be used at long range with telescopic sights. This means that the TOZ-109 is, of course, drilled and tapped for a telescopic sight mount. The standard version uses a beech or birch stock. A deluxe version exists; this version has a walnut stock which is carved with intricate artwork, and an engraved receiver. An interesting note is that the primary caliber is considered to be 7.62mm NATO; the TOZ-109 may have been built primarily for export.
