      Notes: This is basically the Russian GAZ-51A truck, built in North Korea – and to a far lower standard of quality.  The shock absorbers are much worse, leading to an exceptionally rough ride, as well as broken leaf springs; the GM may wish to penalize the Load factor due to the poor suspension.  The engine is rated at 70 horsepower, but habitually develops much less than this, and is extremely polluting and fuel-thirsty.  This engine is a Victory-58, a poor copy of the Russian GAZ-51. The cargo area is wooden-floored and has three wooden benches on either side of the cargo bed that hinge up or down as necessary. The cargo bed may be covered with a canvas over bows. The cab has a canvas roof, and the windshield folds down.

     The Shengli-58 is powered by wood gas, which is more properly called Syngas.  The operator of a Shengli-58 needs 0.57 cubic meters of wood to produce enough Syngas to fill his 90-liter fuel tank.  He needs 8 hours to produce this much fuel with the gasification module most often used on the Shengli-58.  The cooking can be a continuous process, with the fuel tank continually filled as necessary. Three liters of propane or butane are used to burn the wood. Syngas is not as efficient as gasoline or diesel, and requires a rather large gasification module. However, it can be used as a replacement for conventional alcohol production from wood.
