Weatherby Mk V Accumark

Notes: Introduced in 1996 and designed for shooting with great accuracy at long range, The Accumark is characterized by its adjustable trigger with a special mechanism for smooth trigger pull, long barrel, and synthetic stock.  The stock is a true composite, built of Aramid, graphite fiber, and glass fiber.  The metalwork is largely stainless steel, but the Accumark has a base plate for the attachment of a scope mount which is made from aircraft aluminum.  The butt has a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate which reduces felt recoil; certain models also have an AccuBrake muzzle device which further reduced felt recoil.  The Accumark is chambered or was chambered for over 20 calibers over its lifetime, and it is still being built.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mark V Classic Custom

Notes: Introduced in 1993, the Classic Custom is not at present featured on Weatherby’s website, though I do not know when it was removed from the market.  It is designed specifically for Weatherby’s small and medium proprietary cartridges.  The stock of the rifle is of oil-finished French walnut, with the tip of the fore-end being made of ebony, and the buttplate and cap of the pistol grip wrist being of metal.  The action is classic Mark V, except for the cocking indicator at the rear of the bolt.  Barrels for all calibers is 26 inches, and the weight is also the same for all calibers.  Like most Mark V variants, it has no iron sights, though it has bases and rings for a scope.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This is a rather rare weapon, even though it continued to be made in small numbers even after the November Nuclear Strikes.

Weatherby Mk V Crown Custom

Notes: This variant of the Mk V was introduced in 1989, and quickly became one of Weatherby’s top sellers.  It is still manufactured today.  The Crown Custom was built for Weatherby by Howa of Japan from 1989-1994, but has been built by Saco Defense in the US since then.  The stock is made form hand-carved walnut, and the parts are hand-fitted and made from special steel.  The stock and fore-end have veneer inlays made form fine woods; the most prominent is the red diamond on the stock.  The floorplate for the internal magazine is gold-plated and engraved.  The fore-end has hand-carved initials of the person for whom the rifle was made.  The butt has a special Pachmayr Decelerator plate which reduces felt recoil.  The Crown Custom has a barrel of 24 or 26 inches (with other barrel lengths available with special orders); the calibers shown below are standard, but virtually any other caliber can be requested as a special order.

Weatherby Mk V Custom Outfitter

Notes: This rifle is designed for extreme climates, particularly those that are cold and/or wet.  The stock of the Outfitter is made of a composite of Aramid, graphite fiber, and glass fiber, usually finished in some sort of camouflage pattern (several patterns are available, as well as basic black).  The metalwork is largely of polished steel plated with a thin but tough layer of titanium for resistance against corrosion.  The sight base (the Outfitter has no iron sights) is made from aircraft aluminum, and the stock also has a sub-frame of the same aluminum to increase strength.  The barrel is a Krieger Criterion barrel, made of stainless steel for standard calibers.  For Magnum chamberings, the barrel is a special Krieger barrel which is cold-forged and has a bored-out muzzle.  The barrels are 24 inches long for standard calibers and 26 inches for Magnum calibers.  They are fluted to reduce weight, and are target-crowned and aluminum-block-bedded.  The butt features the Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to reduce felt recoil.

Twilight 2000 Notes: Introduced in 1997, this rifle is not available in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mk V Deluxe

Notes: One of the first rifles designed with the Mk V action, the Mk V deluxe was designed to fire a variety of powerful cartridges, most of them magnum, and most of them proprietary Weatherby cartridges.  Introduced in 1958, the Mk V Deluxe was built for one year at Weatherby’s Southgate facility; from 1959-1972, the Mk V Deluxe was built by Sauer in Germany, from 1972-1995, it was built by Howa in Japan, and from 1995 onward, it was made by Saco in the US.  It is still being built today.  The Deluxe has oil-finished and polished walnut Monte-Carlo-style stock with a raised comb.  The fore-end tip and pistol-grip-wrist cap are of rosewood, with maple spacers.  The fore-end and pistol grip wrist are finely checkered.  Metalwork is largely of steel, usually of a polished blued finish.  Only proprietary Weatherby chamberings of .257 Weatherby Magnum and above are available as standard today, but the Mk V Deluxe has been chambered for a plethora of cartridges in the past, and even today other chamberings are available upon request, as well as custom barrel and stock lengths.  Heavier Weatherby chamberings (.378 and above) use the patented AccuBrake muzzle brake to reduce recoil.  The most rare chambering is the .220 Weatherby Rocket caliber; this version was built in very small amounts for a few months in 1958 and 1959.  The 7x64mm Brenneke, 8x68mm RWS, and 6.5mm RWS chamberings are also relatively rare, built only during the time that the Deluxe was made by Sauer.  Non-Weatherby calibers have 24-inch barrels; Weatherby calibers up to .340 have 26-inch barrels; the larger Weatherby calibers use a 28-inch barrel.

Twilight 2000 Notes: The switchover to Saco production was incomplete by the beginning of the war, and thus the Saco facility turned out relatively few rifles before the war.  Production of the Deluxe continued in Japan, even after the end of the Twilight War, without permission from Weatherby; they were even sold overseas under the Howa name.

Weatherby Mk V DGR

Notes: The DGR (Dangerous Game Rifle) is, as the name would indicate, designed for the hunting of large, dangerous creatures such as bears, lions, rhinos, alligators, etc.  As one might imagine, it is chambered only for powerful rounds; the smallest chambering of the DGR is .300 Weatherby Magnum.  The stock is made from a composite of Aramid, graphite fiber, and glass fiber, with an internal framework of aircraft aluminum.  Unlike most Weatherby rifles, the DGR does have iron sights, so that it can be used for stalking as well as ranged hunting.  These sights consist of an adjustable rear leaf sight which is about a third of the way down the barrel, and front bead sight with a gold tip and protected by a tunnel.  In addition, the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope.  The butt is equipped with a Pachmayr Decelerator device to help absorb some of the recoil; in addition, in rifles chambered for .378 and above, the DGR also has an AccuBrake muzzle brake to further tame recoil.  Barrels are 24 inches for .375 chamberings and below, and 26 inches for other calibers.

Twilight 2000 Notes: Introduced in 2001, this rifle is not available in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mk V Euromark

Notes: As you might guess from the name, the Euromark was designed to introduce Weatherby rifles to the European market.  The Euromark Was actually built by Howa in Japan from 1986-1994; after that, production was moved to Saco in the US (at which time the .240 and .460 chamberings were also dropped, since they were never popular in Europe).  Originally manufactured for all the Weatherby proprietary calibers (except .224 Weatherby Magnum and .416 Weatherby Magnum) as well as .30-06 Springfield, the Euromark was later also manufactured in 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum,  .378 Winchester Magnum and .416 Weatherby Magnum to satisfy the demands of the customers.  The Euromark uses a Claro walnut stock of specially chosen wood, with a fore-end tip and pistol grip wrist cap of ebony.  The stock is of the Monte Carlo style.  The butt is equipped with the Pachmayr Decelerator device which reduces felt recoil; higher-power Weatherby chamberings (.378 and up), the Euromark is also equipped with the AccuBrake muzzle brake.  For all non-Weatherby calibers except .30-06, the barrel is 24 inches.  For lower-power Weatherby chamberings, the barrel is 26 inches.  Higher-power Weatherby calibers (.378 and up) use a 28-inch barrel.

The Eurosport variant was introduced in Europe in 1991, but was not available on American markets until 1995.  It has a slightly different stock design, with a pistol grip wrist that is not as deep and has ribs instead of checkering.  (The fore-end is still checkered.)  The Eurosport does not have the ebony caps for the fore-end or pistol grip wrist.  Metalwork is largely of stainless steel finish instead of a polished blued finish.  Not as many calibers are available, and most are proprietary Weatherby calibers.  Again, non-Weatherby calibers have a barrel of 24 inches; Weatherby calibers use a 26-inch barrel.  The Eurosport does use the Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate.  Neither the Euromark nor the Eurosport have iron sights; they are drilled and tapped for a telescopic sight, however.

Neither of these rifles are now listed on Weatherby’s web site.  If they are being sold, they are not shown.  If they are no longer being sold, I do not know when they were discontinued.

Twilight 2000 Notes: Howa is still building the Euromark; however, they build it under the Howa name (without permission from Weatherby), and sell them not to Europe, but largely in Japan and the Far East.  Saco also build the Euromark in small numbers for the US, largely to equip US military and militia snipers as well as hunters.  The Eurosport is not being built by anyone in the Twilight 2000 timeline, though it was built before the war.

Weatherby Mk V FibermarkSynthetic

Notes: This variant of the Mk V, introduced in 1983, has a stock made of a composite material composed of Aramid, graphite fibers, and glass fibers, with a reinforcing frame of aircraft aluminum.  From 1983-1994, it was actually built by Howa in Japan; during that time, it was known as the Fibermark Synthetic; some time later, the Synthetic moniker was dropped. It was originally chambered only for Weatherby proprietary cartridges from .240 to .340 as well as .30-05 Springfield, but other calibers were added later during Japanese manufacture.  In 1995, production was brought back to the US under Saco Defense, and more calibers were added, ranging from .22-250 to .375 H&H Magnum, and Weatherby cartridges up to .375 were also added.  In 2002, .416 Weatherby Magnum was also added.  In 1992, a variant of the Fibermark known as the Fibermark Alaskan was introduced; this is basically the same as the standard Fibermark (for game terms), but the metal parts are nickel-plated for weather resistance, and calibers are limited to Weatherby cartridges ranging from .270 to .340.  The Fibermark Alsakan stopped production in 1995.  Another variant, the Fibermark Stainless, was added in 2001; this version has stainless steel metalwork.  The Stainless is made for a more restricted range of calibers, but the magazine capacity is in some cases larger than is standard for Weatherby Mk Vs, and it also has the Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate, which other Fibermarks do not have.  In addition, the Fibermark Stainless chambered for .30-378 has an AccuBrake.  Barrel lengths for non-Weatherby calibers is 24 inches; for most Weatherby cartridges, barrel length is 26 inches, and for the .30-378 version of the Fibermark Stainless, the barrel length is 28 inches.

Current standard chamberings for the Fibermark Synthetic are the Weatherby calibers from .257 to .340 (with the exception of the .338-378), 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .375 H&H Magnum.  Other calibers are available upon request.  As far as I can tell, the current Fibermark Synthetic is similar to the Fibermark Stainless, except for the weight and the addition of a Pachmayr Decelerator buttplate, as well as the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum chambering (with Accubrake).

Twilight 2000 Notes: Howa continued to make the standard version of the Fibermark even after the end of the Twilight War, under their own name and shipping them throughout the Far East.  Saco also made the Fibermark in the US, but at a greatly-reduced rate of production after the November Nuclear Strikes due to the lack of composite materials (and often other materials were substituted).  Fibermark Alsakan production continued, at a lower rate, by Howa.  The Fibermark Stainless was built, but only in exceedingly small numbers; stainless steel was hard to come by.  The Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate was not available to Weatherby and Saco, so the new style Fibermark Synthetic rifles were also not built.

Weatherby Mk V Lazermark

Notes: Introduced in 1981, this special model of the Mk V Deluxe features laser etching on the pistol grip wrist and fore-end of the stock, something quite rare in 1981 (and still rather rare today).  As with most Weatherby rifles of this period, the Lazermark was built by Howa in Japan from 1981-1994, and Saco in the US in 1995 and afterwards.  It is chambered only for Weatherby proprietary rounds, and the .460 Weatherby Magnum version is also equipped with an AccuBrake muzzle device to help tame the enormous recoil.  From .257 to .375 caliber, the barrel is 26 inches long; with larger calibers, the barrel is a full 28 inches.

Current chamberings listed on the Weatherby web site only go up to .340 Weatherby Magnum, but it is probable that other chamberings may be gotten through the Custom Shop.

Weatherby Mk V Royal Custom/Safari Grade Custom

Notes: These two rifles have the same base, but differ significantly in some details.  The Safari Grade Custom came first in 1989; it has a French walnut stock, oil-finished and polished, and with a fore-end cap of ebony.  The bottom of the plate of the internal magazine is engraved with the words “Safari Custom.”  The metalwork is finished in deep blue which is highly polished.  The original Safari Grade Custom had no iron sights, but a rear adjustable leaf sight and a front V-shaped sight in a protective tunnel were added in 1991.  As with most Weatherby rifles, they were built in Japan until 1989, but production shifted to Saco in the US in 1995.  The Safari Grade was made for virtually all Weatherby rounds .340 and above except .375 Weatherby Magnum and the newer .30-378.  In 1992, with the advent of the Safari Grade Custom II, .375 H&H Magnum was added, and later, .257, .270 and 7mm were added.  The .378, .416, and .460 models are equipped with the AccuBrake device.  The standard barrel is 26 inches.

The Royal Custom is similar, but is made with a stock of finer-grade wood, has no iron sights, and has a receiver decorated with lines of 24-caret gold and engravings.  In addition, part of the mechanism is nickel-plated and polished.  The floorplate of the internal magazine is gold-plated and engraved with scrollwork and an animal design of the buyer’s choice.  The parts of the rifle are hand-fitted and finished, and the bolt-knob is checkered.  These rifles are not generally for sale “off the rack,” but instead made for individual buyers. The standard barrel is 26 inches, but other barrel lengths are available upon order.  The standard calibers for the Royal Custom are normally restricted to Weatherby calibers between .257 and .340, but again, others can be had upon specific order.  The Royal Custom is otherwise identical to the Safari Grade Custom for game purposes.

Twilight 2000 Notes: Not introduced until 2002, the Royal Custom is not available in the Twilight 2000 timeline.  The Safari Grade Custom is still built by Howa as well as being built in very small numbers by Saco.

Weatherby Mk V SBGM

Notes: The SBGM (Super Big GameMaster) is a medium hunting rifle firing an exotic (and proprietary) small caliber magnum cartridges, as well as other cartridges.  It is more powerful version of the Super Varmintmaster, with the necessary adjustments to fire the more powerful cartridge, and with an internal magazine added.  The stock is of high-impact plastic strengthened with internal blocks of aircraft aluminum, and is equipped with a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to reduce felt recoil.  The barrel is a special Krieger Criterion barrel which is fluted for better heat dissipation and to slightly reduce weight.  The muzzle is bored out and target-crowned to produce better accuracy.  Weatherby does sort of “stack the deck” in favor of their own ammunition; Super Big GameMasters firing Weatherby cartridges have a 26-inch barrel, while others have a 24-inch barrel.  The .240 Weatherby Magnum chambering is an exception; it also has a 24-inch barrel.

The SBGM was introduced in 2002; however, it should be noted that it is not listed on Weatherby’s web site at this time, and may be no longer offered.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mk V SLS

Notes: The SLS (Stainless Laminate Sporter) is sort of an all-weather version of the Sporter, but it also differs from the Sporter in many ways.  It was introduced in 1997, and as such has always been manufactured in the US.  The calibers are all Weatherby calibers, with the exception of .338 Winchester Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum.  As with most Weatherby rifles, the Weatherby calibers use a 26-inch barrel, while non-Weatherby chamberings use a 24-inch barrel.  The receiver and barrel are of stainless steel, but are blued and polished.  The trigger guard and the floorplate of the internal magazine are made from light alloy.  The stock is of walnut, but is laminated against the elements, and the butt has a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to help absorb recoil.  There are no iron sights, but the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope.

Weatherby Mk V SPM

Notes: Introduced in 2001, the SPM (Super Predator Master) is a rifle designed for varmint and small predator hunting using small-caliber rounds.  It is one of the few rifles Weatherby has built which does not use any of Weatherby’s proprietary rounds.  It is a light weapon with a stock of high-impact plastic reinforced with aircraft-quality aluminum bars.  The barrel is a heavy Krieger Criterion barrel designed to enhance accuracy, and is fluted to further reduce weight and enhance cooling.  The stock has a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to reduce felt recoil.  The internal magazine’s capacity is larger than is usual for Weatherby rifles.

It should be noted that this rifle is not at present offered on Weatherby’s web site; it may have been discontinued.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mk V Sporter

Notes: Basically a more affordable version of the Mk V Deluxe, the Sporter features a Claro walnut stock with a satin urethane finish, with a pistol grip wrist and a Monte Carlo-type cheek.  It was introduced in 1993, built by Howa in Japan until 1994, and then production was taken over by Saco Defense in the US.  Like most late-model Weatherby rifles, it has the Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to soften recoil.  The metalwork is bead-blasted and finished to a dull shine.  The receiver sits on steel blocks in the stock, which are then wedded to the wood with glass resin.  The trigger is adjustable.  As with most Weatherby rifles, the non-Weatherby calibers use a 24-inch barrel, while the Weatherby chamberings have a 26-inch barrel.  The Sporter was introduced chambered for the Weatherby calibers shown as well as 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Winchester Magnum, but several others were added in 2000.  It should be noted, however, that only the original calibers, with the exception of .338 Winchester Magnum, are now shown on the Weatherby web site.

In 2005, introduced a version of this rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum.  The rifle is largely the same as other Sporters, except for the changes necessary to adapt to the new caliber, most of which include strengthening and beefing up of the bolt and chamber, and of course the barrel.  The barrel is made by Howa of Japan, of heavy profile, and 24 inches long.  Other features are the same as the standard Sporter.  More advanced construction methods have made it lighter than the standard Sporter.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This is a rare rifle, except in the Far East, where Howa continued to build it long after the Twilight War.

Weatherby Mk V Stainless

Notes: This rifle is designed for inclement weather; it has largely stainless steel metalwork and a stock of high-impact plastic.  It was introduced in 1995, and thus has always been American-made.  The Stainless has no iron sights, but is drilled and tapped for a scope.  The standard barrel for magnum calibers is 26 inches (with the exception of the .240 Weatherby Magnum), and for other calibers, 24 inches; however, a carbine variant exists which has a barrel only 20 inches long, and is available in only three chamberings.  In both cases, the barrel is a special Krieger Criterion barrel, and the stainless steel metalwork is bead-blasted and blued.  The trigger is adjustable to a very high degree, for pull weight, length of pull, and sear engagement.  The .30-378 and .338-378 versions have the AccuBrake device to help tame recoil.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This is an extremely rare rifle; the plastic for the stock became rather hard to find in the wake of the November Nuclear Strikes.  The rifle is not offered in .30-378 or .338-378.

Notes: The SVM (Super VarmintMaster) is a weapon that is designed for the hunting of small game at long range and for pest control.  The SVM is a descendant of the old Varmint Master made for Weatherby by Sauer back in 1964, but the SVM is a vastly improved weapon over that rifle.  The SVM was introduced in 2000, and has thus always been produced in the US.  It is a long-barreled small-caliber rifle with a heavy, fluted barrel that is cold-forged.  The Super VarmintMaster has a synthetic stock that is light tan or dark gray in color, made of high-impact plastic and reinforced with aircraft aluminum bars; the butt features the Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate.  The rifle has bases and rings for a scope, but there are no iron sights.  There are two versions of this rifle: a single-shot version, and a version fed by an internal magazine.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Mk V Synthetic

Notes: Basically a non-stainless version of the Stainless, the Synthetic was introduced in 1995.  The Synthetic comes in rifle and carbine versions, and virtually the same calibers (plus a one more).  The barrel is a Krieger Criterion barrel.  The metalwork is standard steel, bead-blasted and blued.  The trigger is extremely adjustable, for weight of pull, length of pull, and sear actuation.  Weight is the same as the Stainless, despite the synthetic stock; you really can’t go much lighter than the Stainless and still have manageable recoil! Magnum calibers have a 26-inch barrel, while other calibers use a 24-inch barrel.  The .30-378 and .338-378 calibers use an AccuBrake to further dampen recoil.  The rifles use a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This version of the Mk V was not built after the November Nuclear Strikes.  The carbine variant was built as early as 1996, but they are extremely rare.  The .30-378 and .338-378 models are not available in the Twilight 2000 timeline, nor is the version chambered for 7mm STW.

Weatherby Mk V Ultra Lightweight

Notes: As it sounds, this is a very lightweight walking-around rifle designed for hunting on all-day forays or in rough terrain.  The barrel is of fluted, heat-treated stainless steel, but most of the rest of the rifle is made from light components – light alloys and high-impact plastic.  The stock also has an aircraft aluminum underframe to strengthen it.  Since the rifle is so light, the Ultra Lightweight is equipped with a Pachmayr Decelerator butt plate to help take up the recoil.  The barrels are still full length (for Weatherby), being 24 inches for standard calibers or 26 inches for magnum calibers (with the exception of .240 Weatherby Magnum).  The barrel is a special Krieger Criterion barrel which is target-crowned.

Twilight 2000 Notes: Not introduced until 1998, this rifle does not exist in the Twilight 2000 timeline.

Weatherby Vanguard

Notes: This is a synthetic-stocked bolt-action sporter that blends features of the Mark V and .460 Magnum Deluxe with some new features.  It does have some styling features that make it “look like a Weatherby,” but there are several differences, such as the Howa action.  The Vanguard is known to be an accurate and easy to use weapon.  It is drilled and tapped for a scope.

Twilight 2000 Notes: This weapon is very rare.
